My Hello World Post…
Hello World! I decided to give this website a try to see if it fits my needs. I am a 28 year old male living in Texas that works a regular job to pay my bills like most of you. I love to read and respond to comments. I welcome open critique to anything I write on here and will respond to comments that may be left as long as they are written with thought and not just a straight out flame. I am straight forward and often times blunt in the things I have to say. I am by no means a professional writer and so please keep that in mind while reading my posts. I enjoy all sorts of topics from politics, technology, and any current events going on in the world. One subject that I feel strongly on is to some a controversial issue: The War on Drugs.
I believe it is time for the laws to be looked over again and changes need to be made. Over a million nonviolent offenders are convicted every year. The prison system is not complaining since more people locked up means more money for them. The government will not do anything since the prisons pay taxes and so that is more money for the government as well. Is all that money really worth the cost of ruining peoples lives for doing something that is their own personal choice?
I personally enjoy smoking marijuana, but I do not need to go out and rob and steal to buy it. There are many people like me who enjoy not only that, but other drugs as well. I personally believe that people should not be arrested for just using or possessing drugs. If a person is robbing and stealing in order to support a habit then charge them for the crimes they committed, and if they need help to over come their addiction then prisons can also be used as rehab centers for those seeking help. Drugs need to be treated for what they really are…a health issue. The stance our government has taken in treating drugs as a criminal issue has obviously not worked and it never will. All this war has caused is the development of even more organized crime, convictions of innocent law abiding citizens (other than their drug use), and countless taxpayers money.
This is history repeating itself. If you read about the prohibition of alcohol then you will see the similarities of the crime going on back then and the corruption it lead to. The same thing is happening now, but on a much wider scale and with a much bigger budget.
Do I believe in the complete legalization of drugs? No, I think they need to be regulated the same way tobacco and alcohol is. Well, thank you for reading if you’ve made it this far. I will be more comprehensive on my next post. This was just my “Hello World” ![]()
